January 2007: TRY Grant Request on behalf of Serra HS Boys Lacrosse.

The Serra HS Boys Lacrosse Team appreciates your continuing support. Last year, the TRY committee donated $500 to assist the team in purchasing 30 sets of new JV shorts. With your assistance and that of the Tierrasanta Kiwanis and others, we were able to purchase these new shorts. This year we are seeking donations to offset the cost of purchasing 30 lacrosse bags for the team. We have never been able to fund this purchase before. The bags cost $45 each, so we need to generate an additional $1350 over our projected budget of $8250.

The Serra HS Boys Lacrosse Team is almost entirely self-supporting. Each player pays an annual club fee of $250 and participates in car washes and other fundraising efforts. Although lacrosse is now a CIF varsity sport at Serra, the team receives no financial support from the school. The Serra Foundation provides $1000 to $1500 per year to help fund referees and other field-related expenses. However, the team has no other regular source of financial support. Your assistance at any level would be much appreciated. Thank you for your consideration.

March 2007: TRY Grant Request on behalf of Serra HS Navy Junior ROTC.

The Cadets of Serra High School are proud to announce they have earned the opportunity to represent San Diego at the West Coast National JROTC competition in Torrance, CA on April 20, 2007. Unlike past years this competition is an all service event. Serra NJROTC will compete against the Nation’s finest units from the Army, Air Force, Marine Corps and other Navy units.

We really need your help. Our goal is to raise $5,000 through this donation effort to help defray the costs of this competition. The San Diego community has always rallied to assist us in the past. It is a worthy cause and your donation sends a clear and vital signal to our youth that hard work, dedication and sacrifice has its rewards.

For the Cadets to have a once in a life time opportunity to proudly represent their community is a learning experience they will cherish forever. We graciously ask for your support.
