This is the Tierrasanta Community Council annual report
for the Council year ending 15 March 2000.
This report outlines significant Council accomplishments.
Facilities Improvements / Infrastructure Issues
- Completion of the Tierrasanta Entrance to Mission
Trails Regional Park at the eastern terminus of Clairemont Mesa
Boulevard.
- Continuing to pursue the establishment of an
intra-community transportation service and a
Community or Senior Center.
Funding for Youth Programs
- TRY Grant of $500 to Serra High NJROTC for National
Meet in Chicago
- TRY Grant of $500 to Friends of TS Elementary for
Sacramento trip
- TRY Grant of $1000 to TS/Murphy Canyon Pony League for
uniforms
- TRY Grant of $500 to AYSO
- TRY Grant of $100 to Christine Milovancev as Freedom
Foundation partial scholarship
- TRY Grant of $100 to Nicole Vanderhurst as Freedom
Foundation partial scholarship
- TRY Grant of $100 to Jamie Tank as National Student
Leadership Conference partial scholarship
- TRY Grant of $100 to Gerald Stevens, Jr as National
Youth Leadership Forum partial scholarship
Public Safety Issues
- Opening of the new San Diego Police Department
satellite office in the Tierrasanta Town Center.
Thanks to the efforts of City Councilmember Judy
McCarty and her staff.
- Installation of stop signs at Via Vallarta and
Collegio Way.
- Approval of road humps for Calle de Vida - a project
championed by Calle de Vida resident,
Victoria Bradbury.
- Assisted Army Corps of Engineers with preparation of a
report regarding its ordnance removal efforts.
Planning and Zoning Issues
- Held a Town Hall meeting to gather input for
establishing the scope of the environmental impact
statement to be prepared by the Navy and
Marine Corps regarding the proposed construction of
up to 1600 new military family housing
units north of Highway 52.
- Successfully opposed a new proposal to extend
Tierrasanta Blvd to Princess View and Clairemont Mesa Blvd to Jackson
Drive.
- Provided input to the City Council's Land Use
Committee regarding the approval process for construction of new mobile
phone antennas.
- Established a policy limiting the number of mobile
phone antennas to be constructed on any one site.
- Met with local business owners to reinforce municipal
code restrictions on type and placement of commercial signs.
- Continuing efforts in neighborhood code and CC&R
enforcement.
Community Programs
- Co-sponsorship with the League of Women Voters of
Tierrasanta of a Candidate Forum providing a platform for candidates
seeking the 7th District City Council seat.
- Co-sponsorship with the Kiwanis Club of the Tierra
Fest and Oktober Fest.
Other Highlights:
- Serra High School football team won conference title
again.
- Serra High School boy's basketball team won CIF.
- Crime is still down.
- Home values continue to go up.
