Are You Registered To Vote?
On November 7, 2006, a countywide ballot measure will ask voters to approve actions to be taken by local officials to secure 3000 acres of land at MCAS Miramar for a commercial airport. If approved by the voters, this proposal would have devastating impacts to Tierrasanta and all the communities surrounding MCAS Miramar including increased noise, light pollution, traffic, military readiness and severe damage to the environmental and conservation efforts. Although the Navy, Marines, and Defense Department have said “no”, the Airport Authority, downtown business interests and land developers think they can persuade Congress to pressure the military to make land available. If you want a say in the plan to move the airport to MCAS Miramar, then you must be registered to vote and then you must vote on November 7, 2006. The Tierrasanta Community Council has begun a campaign to ensure that everyone in the community 18 years and older is registered to vote. Look for volunteers with registration and absentee ballot forms at local shopping centers, the annual fall Craft Fair and Oktoberfest. Also, look for the voter registration form in an upcoming edition of the TierraTimes. You can also go to the Registrar of Voters website www.sdvote.com or their office at 5201 Ruffin Road, Ste. I, just off Clairemont Mesa Blvd in Kearney Mesa. The Tierrasanta Community Council needs volunteers to help with the voter registration drive. If you can spend a few hours registering neighbors at Tierrasanta locations, school and community events, please e-mail Kathy Warburton at kwarbu@aol.com. |
