Registration Underway for
Tierrasanta Community Pool Classes 2002
The City of San Diego Park &
Recreation Departmentıs Aquatics Department now offers mail-in registration
for swim lessons at all of the Cityıs 13 pools, including the Tierrasanta
Community Pool (858-636-4837). In-person open registration begins on June
15th and will continue throughout the summer.
This change
should make the registration process as easy as possible. It will soon be
possible to register for swim lessons in advance, with up to two sessions
per participant.
This summerıs schedule includes five two-week learning sessions beginning
June 24th. Classes will meet daily for 30 minutes at all pool locations.
Call the Tierrasanta Community Pool at 858-636-4837 for schedule
information.
Last year,
approximately 18,000 youth took part in the Learn to Swim program offered at
all City pools. In addition to swim lessons, City pools offer swim and water
polo team programs, water fitness classes, senior specialty programs, lap
and recreational swim times, and adaptive swim programs for those with
disabilities.
During the
summer the pool is open an average of 10-15 hours per day. The cost for lap
and recreational swim times is $2 for adults (16-61), and $1.50 for children
(15 and younger), seniors (62 and older) and the disabled.
Any family
that cannot afford the cost of swimming may apply for a fee waiver, making
it possible to participate in any program for free. To apply for a fee
waiver, an individual must show proof of residency and an income tax
statement including number of family members. For those who do not file an
income tax return, a Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF) Social
Services Action Form can be submitted as verification. This information is
then compared to the Financial Assistance Scale in the Park and Recreation
Departmentıs fee schedule.
