The Tierrasanta
Open Space Maintenance District (MAD) is funded through an annual
assessment levied through the homeowners property tax.
Single family homeowners pay approximately $54 per year and owners of
condos and apartments pay about $40 per year. The money is used to
maintain the center islands and street-right-of-ways (ROW) including
the planted cul-de-sac areas throughout the community, plus the more
than 800 acres of undeveloped open space throughout the community. It
also pays for about $100,000 in tree maintenance throughout the
community.
A full-time Open
Space Inspector, (Jan Eby - 619-685-1354) is assigned Tierrasanta and
she works closely with the Community Council and its Open Space
Committee. The MAD also maintains all the parks in the community,
including the playing fields at all the school sites, and the staging
area for Mission Trails Regional Park located at the eastern end of
Clairemont Mesa Blvd.
Approximately
$500,000 per year is generated by the annual assessment, of which:
a.
20% is spent on tree maintenance,
b.
15% in the canyon areas,
c.
7% to maintain the right-of-way (ROW) areas throughout the
community including Clairemont Mesa Blvd.
and Tierrasanta Blvd.,
d.
12% to maintain the center islands,
e.
17% for salary and benefits, 13% for water and electricity,
f.
12% for City overhead,
g.
1% for annual use of the 4-wheel drive for vehicle, and
h.
2% for miscellaneous expenses.
The MAD does not do brush management,
but Jan Eby regularly issues free permits so that people can maintain
the public areas immediately adjacent to their homes, to a maximum of
110 feet from your residence (see the request form).
