Time and Place of Meeting:

A meeting of the Tierrasanta Recreation Council was held January 10, 2008 at 6:30 p.m. at the Tierrasanta Recreation Center, 11220 Cl airemont Mesa Boulevard, San Diego, California, 92124.

CALL TO ORDER

The meeting of the Tierrasanta Recreation Council was called to order at 6:45 p.m. It was established that there  were enough members present for a quorum. The meeting started with introductions.

 

 

APPROVAL OF MINUTES

It was moved/seconded (N. Ryan / H. Shatila) to approve the November 8, 2008 Minutes with the following corrections:  Betty Ogilvie should be Present. Motion passes 4-0-1.

 

 

TREASURER’S REPORT

The ending balance for November 30, 2007 is $62,641.86. The Treasurer’s Report was accepted.

 

 

COMMUNICATIONS/PUBLIC COMMENT

Laura Bartolome inquired the usage of bases at Kumeyaay Elementary for Tierra Canyon Softball.

 

CHAIRPERSON’S REPORT

Celeste reported that that she located an old email from Carol Young. It stated that the illumination of the new field light pole (‘Sprint Telecom Project’) is scheduled to be complete by January 31, 2008.

 

 

ACTION ITEMS

1.  2008 Nominations- It was moved/seconded (L. Bartolome / H. Shatila) to approve the slate of officers: John Brust (Chairperson), Norm Ryan (Vice Chair), Linda Juhasz (Secretary), and Betty Ogilvie (Treasurer).  Motion passes unanimously.

2.   2008 Budget- It was moved/seconded (H. Shatila / M. George) to approve the 2008 Budget. Motion passes unanimously.

3.   Approve Field Closures:  December 2007 - December 2008 (TABLED)

4.   Tierra Canyon Softball container at Farb (Motion Withdrawn to place container —N. Ryan / J. Brust)

5.   De Portola Northern Container users and keys (TABLED)

6.   Update on Pool Account—Vending Percentage (TABLED)

7.   Usage of funds from “Taste of Tierrasanta” (TABLED)

 

 

STAFF REPORTS

Area Manager

Manny reported the following: David Monroe is the new Deputy Director of the Community Parks II Division; Pepsi is the contract holder for the City of San Diego and recently needed to consolidate the amount of vending machines they had. Some have been removed form Tierrasanta Recreation Center but staff can request for machines to be replaced.

 

Center Director 

Mark reported that the Youth Basketball League is now in full swing.  He informed the Council that the “Movie in the Park” will be on July 12, 2008 featuring “Evan Almighty”. The Recreation Center will be closed January  21st for the Martin Luther King, Jr., Holiday.

 

 

Pool Manager

Saunia Kammerer reported that the pool was back open as of December 17, 2007.  The pool also recently had some tile work completed. Lastly, the pool will close again in May so there is fresh water for the busy season.

 

ORGANIZATION REPORTS

1.         Tierrasanta Little League

Absent.

2.         AYSO

            Just finished season. Spring Select coming in March.

3.            Kiwanis Club

Beginning plans for Patriot’s Day Parade.

4.         DePortola Middle School

Absent.

5.         Tierrasanta Pop Warner

 Beginning plans for next season.

6.         Tierra Canyon Girls Softball

            Season and evaluations are coming soon.      

7.         Tierrasanta Community Council

January 16th TCC meeting will be discussing usage of “Tucker Land”—sub-committee has been formed; Fire Station is one option.

8.         Mission Trails

      Absent.

9.         Open Space Committee

Working on budget for next year including a lot of money being spent for tree trimming. There will be a small garden of natural vegetation on Clairemont Mesa Blvd. near Rueda Dr.

10.       Serra Foundation

Acknowledged AYSO for their support.

 

11.       Lacrosse

            Began practices.

With no further business, Chairperson Celeste Weinsheim adjourned the meeting at 8:55 p.m. The next regular meeting of the Tierrasanta Recreation Council will be held, WEDNESDAY, February 13, 2008 at
