Friends of Tierrasanta Canyons
The Friends group schedules a
cleanup of invasive plants in Tierrasanta open space on the second Saturday of
each month. Cleanup takes place from 8:00–11:00 am, and volunteers are always
needed. Come when you can – even an hour of your time can make a difference!
Directions to the cleanup site will be found across from Vons at the corner of
Remora Street and Santo Road on the morning of the cleanup. Or call Tierrasanta
residents Barbara Lohne at 858-565-6549 or
Roberta Froome at 858-627-0682 (rfroome1@yahoo.com)
in advance.
If possible, bring loppers and/or a small handsaw. Some extra tools are
available. We'll cut down eucalyptus, fennel, broome, and tamarisk and pick up
trash and dead wood along the trail. This is a great opportunity to make friends
and feel good by fostering native habitats. Hope to see you.
The Friends group also sponsors monthly Saturday hikes in Tierrasanta canyons.
Call Roberta Froome or Bob Muldrew (858-292-8405) for details. A good way to
start your day – in nature!
If you know of problem areas in Tierrasanta's extensive open space, please let
us know. Volunteers have picked up trash and interceded to prevent further
degradation in canyon areas. Your input on this is important.
If you love our open space and want to join the Friends, please call Tierrasanta
residents Barbara Lohne at 858-565-6549 or Roberta Froome at 858-627-0682 (rfroome1@yahoo.com)
to be placed on a mailing list. Everyone is welcome to join - no obligations!
The Friends group belongs to the Tierrasanta Fire Safe Council and the San Diego
River Park Coalition.

On January 20, 2007 Serra High School's
NJROTC unit tackled the task of cleaning up the canyon behind the Vons
shopping center on Clairemont Mesa Blvd and Santo Road. Hauled out were
shopping carts, chairs, wires, mattress frames, tons of beer bottles, and
other trash and debris of all kinds. Many thanks for their hard work in
preserving the environment of Tierrasanta! |

Cub Scout Pack 985 teamed up with
Friends of Tierrasanta Canyons on November 18, 2006 to stain 17 new benches
in the canyons and distribute mulch in Community Park. It was a productive
morning and fun for all! |
