Open Space / Maintenance Assessment District
Dedicated open space areas and landscaped medians are maintained by the TIerrasanta Open Space and Maintenance Assessment District which was established in 1972, most recently approved by voters in 1997. The 818 acres of TIerrasanta Open Space qualified this urban park as one of the 150 largest in the United States.
Emphasis on Open Space
The emphasis for development in Tierrasanta has always been to incorporate extensive open space systems throughout the community with an emphasis on wildlife corridors, canyons that link together and also link with Mission Trails Regional Park to the east. Tierrasanta was one of the first three communities within the City to establish an Open Space Maintenance and Lighting District with property owners assessed on an annual basis through property taxes to maintain the more than 800 acres of open space in Tierrasanta. The Open Space District was created in July 1973, and still operates today with a full time City Inspector assigned to oversee the District and work closely with the community.
